About Lloyd Knowles

I started working full time on fine art after retiring from my architectural firm in 2008. I studied both art and architecture at the Univ. of Idaho and the Univ. of Utah.My major focus: The Isaiah Project is expected to take at least 100 major works to complete. The writings of Isaiah are often metaphorical and most chapters have reference to the "latter days" or "last days". Therefore the art is also metaphorical and the imagery is focused on the period from early 19th century to today. Process:I am presently using a combination of computer graphics, mostly painted or enhanced in PhotoShop, and acrylic on board. I will use whatever process or material is called for by my vision of each chapter. My work of Is 25 includes the above, as well as hand made papers, stainless steel cable, and colored pencil and writing in ink. Most of my frames are hand made to enhance the imagery. I'm always open to commissioned work. How you acquire art depends on your motive for doing so:

Collecting art for personal use:

Much of my work is large and time consuming and the price is currently based on $1.50/sq. in.. Special pieces such as installation works are based on the time in their creation. Therefore I provide in-house production of fine art prints, also known as Giclees. These are priced based on the size of the print, the material it is printed on and framing options. See page 2 - Printing.

Some works can only be reduced to a limited extent due to its origional size and the loss of definition and in some cases, readability. Therefore only the sizes practical for that work are offered. The next page, Fine Art Printing offers information on general pricing for size and options. The next pages deal with origional works, but also indicates the smallest size available for prints.

* Collecting art either for investment or the personal value the origional work is to you: Buy only what you love and would be delighted to keep, even if you are initially looking for an investement.

Starting on page 3 are the individual listings per work. It shows a thumbnail of the image, its description; cost of the origional, and the minimun size for printing.

* Buying an origional work of art is an important investment and I would recommend that it be done, if possible, by seeing the piece in person. This can be done in either of two ways: visiting my studio or having it shipped to your location as negotiated. The shipping cost is a part of the purchase price. If you decide not to keep it, it is returned at your cost.

* Commissioned work: If you enjoy my work, but would like to have a personal work done for you, please contact me directly.

FINE ART PRINTING

We can print in-house, up to 42" wide by the length of the work. Anything larger is sent to a firm specializing in larg format printing and acceptable to our standards. All printing is done with archival inks and media (papers, canvas, fabric or other surface. Shipping cost in U.S. included.

PAPER: Standard - cotton rag paper shipped unpated and unframed. As most of my origional work is finished with a satin varnish I prefer to print on a satin finished paper. Unless otherwise requested the print will use the finish most suitable to the origional. Other papers such as water color, art papers, handmade papers, etc. are available on requestCanvas: Arcival quality canvas or other fabic or unframed print media is shipped rolled in a sturdy tube.Framed: See page 5 for frame/gallery wrap options.Other Notes: Prices are determined by the square inch. Other sizes are also available on request. Limited edition prints are dated and signed on the front in ink. Non-edtion prints are available at lower cost, and not signed. Note and clarification: Hand made work such as paintings are always signed nd stamped on the origional. Therefore , that signature will show on all prints. Limited editions will be also signed on the print. Print media is only signed as printed - edition (collectors) prints are signed and standard prints are not.The ka-boh: I've always been impressed (pun not intended) by the Japanese tradition of officially signing important documents, including art with a seal in a red paste or ink. All of my work include my seal. The Japanese translation of "Lark Studio is a little awkward as there are no larks in Japan. Therefore the translation reads: Sky Sparrow Artists Studio.

Small Prints for ReviewSmaller print sizes are also avalable on commercial grade, satin finish paper for customers who wish to see how a print, or origional will look in their own home: 5x7 print for $15 and 8x10 for $20. The price of the review print will be credited towards the purchase of a larger size print (17x11 or larger) or origional.
